My New Time Attack Car Build Thread

Very cool to see the car come together after tons of hard work by Mike. The fabrication skittles and idea's that went into getting the exhaust done is awesome. Watching the car go from a open header, hard to drive car, into a smooth running bad ass over the past couple weeks has been awesome.
Fuckin' sick... what RPM did you pull to? What oil pump did you end up going with? Oil pressure good after your first issue with the spun bearing? Ever figure out what caused that?
Can't wait to see/hear it on track.

LS6 oil pump, not ported. Oil pressure stays around 40psi when the engine is around 180deg. During the break in I used straight SAE 30 oil. I am going to change it to something heavier for track use since the main bearing tolerances are at the loose side of factory specs.
As far as the rod bearings the cause was due to either the way the ARP bolts are made or incorrect torque. I used Katech bolts this time, the ARP's and the Katechs couldn't be any more different for being used in the same location.
Very pleased with all that this build has become. Thanks to Mike for letting me and the shop be part of this project. Cant wait to get this thing to the track and really lay it down.
Wouldn't be what it is without your help man!Cheers!

YAY! So I'm trying to use the factory tach, speedometer, water temp gauge, and fuel level gauge. The tach and speedometer are driven with stepper motors so they move smoothly, basically the same as Defi gauges or something similar. Just wanted to post up a pick of it turning on because after reading the BMW schematics for the instrument cluster I almost gave up. 9 wires just to cut the bitch on. I have succeeded, now I just need to change the GM ECM tach output in HP Tuner to 6 cyl to get the tach to work. Any OBDII BMW water temp sensor will thread right into the LS block, and the fuel level sensor and the speedometer sensor are still in the stock locations. I will post up more detailed info when I get everything working.
Well done... I'm sure it feels good to have figured that out. See if you can make the mpg gauge work too
My mom used to have an '89 735i back in the day. When I was 16 I'd drive it around and floor it just to watch that gauge move.

Haha yea the mpg gauge is just based off of and intake vacuum signal i believe. I'm not going to hook that up though. I'm gonna try and wire it up in the car this week. I'll let you know how it goes.
