K once they get it installed, if you still have your cox box, note to see if the channels change from what they were for cox. Because the cox boxes are activated, I have no doubt they will accept a picture(VZ and Cox use the same model stbs) but I'm 99% sure the channels wont be in the same place. esp TNT, USA, things like that.

FiOS is coax also. Its only fiber to the rooftop, then its CAT5e to the computer and coax to the TV's. Unless the installer is going to run all new coax..which i highly doubt.

UNLESS for some odd reason they are running IPTV in your area, which i doubt, but if they did, it would be cat5e to your tv's as well.

Exactly what were you planning to compare? TV won't be that much different, internet may be a little quicker, but you shouldn't have any issues with bottlenecking, like COX does. I have seen both, the differences are subtle. All my family in Fairfax has FiOS and my brother has been installing it since it launched.

Verizon was offering broadband before Cox even knew computers existed. Unfortunately, it was VERY expensive and not residential friendly. DSL came along about the same time as Cox's broadband but it's limited on distance. They both had advantages... if you lived near the central office, DSL would really zoom and had no peak hour difficulty. Cable had a greater coverage area but at 5pm it slowed down like crazy.

Just so it clears up the air a bit, some areas were very slow on letting Verizon install FiOS. Norfolk for example was in bed w/Cox and wouldn't allow permits to upgrade areas. The only way it could be installed is in newly built neighborhoods such as east beach in ocean view. I don't think p-town is high on the priority list. You have to understand that they are going to lay the fiber where the money is at 1st and work their way out from there. Va Beach was excited to have the tech and has the concentration of hi-dollar customers ready to make the switch. Portsmouth is either (mostly) lower income OR rural. There are spots that are a nice concentration of middle to upper income but not as massive as in Va Beach and Norfolk. Chesapeake is also getting fiber laid now as is parts of the penninsula. It's gonna be a waiting game for alot of people but once it's in, I think you'll be happy with it.

BUT OF COURSE, not everyone is going to be happy with the total package. I've heard alot of bitches and moans about the DVR. I've also heard about the guide troubles and firmware upgrade goofs. My bro-in-law sent his DVR back and bought a HD Tivo because the DVR wouldn't work all the time. I've heard a few people say the same thing. It's new tech and it's bound to have it's problems. His net speed is fucking schmokin though!

to me looking at cox cable then fios there is a little small differ in the picture. seems to be more clear. But yes I was getting blocking(pixling) during hidef games and movies. And my on demand would do the same and some times freeze up.

SO we will see. I started this post to see if anyone had fios and if the indeed recommend it?

And I think the people have spoken!

Fios is like an urban myth...like a great unicorn that shits gold... everyone says it's real but I've never seen it.
Give it time. It's cold outside and the Mexican contractors work slower in the cold!
It takes a lot of time and $ to deploy an entirely new network. It's actually all fiber from the office to your house, unlike the Cox "fiber" network, that is really fiber to hubs , then copper to your house, just like verizon's old network.
These things don't happen overnight.
