Stuff like this never helps....

Vandalism of Shorebird Closure Fencing
A new act of vandalism/trespass to posted shorebird protection areas has occurred at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, this time on Bodie Island Spit just north of Oregon Inlet. On Sunday, June 22, 2008, Seashore staff discovered damaged fencing and off-road vehicle tire tracks that violated three resource protection areas that were in place south of Ramp 4 towards the inlet.

Was down Oregon Inlet last monday. South end is fenced off about 200 yards or so from coming through the entrance. Damn hippies.

I just got back from Nags Head, the closures seem to be seasonal (summer). Also no beack access between 10 PM and 6 AM. It seems that this situation will not be resolved for at least the next two years. The closures are a comprimise, the plaintiffs wanted the beaches closed for all access. The judge accepted a comprimise to allow limited beach access.
It is not the hippies it is the lawers and the national park service (defendent).

The piping plover is surely a threatened species of bird, but does that mean beaches all along the eastern seaboard should be closed to all public access??
RIP Moonstone Beach
RIP Cape Cod
RIP Cape Hatteras Seashores
RIP Oregon Inlet
There are MILES UPON MILES of uninhabitited seashore along the east coast yet they target the few miles that we have been granted use of. These nature groups like the Audubon Society are bastardising their endangerment to strip the seashores of public development and public use. These people would rid us of ALL public access to beaches if allowed.

Yea and for those who love to go to carova. Your time driving on the beach is short time coming also. You will only be able to drive on the beach if you are a renter or own property

Misguided do gooders are not hippies. They are simply ignorant people who chosse to let their emotions rule their intelect. I have been going to the outer banks for over 30-years and driving on the beach for over 25-years and I have never seen any offroaders do any damage to the environment, and I am an occasional environmental engineer, so I do know what I am talking about.
Those people are ecoterrorists. They harm their own cause more than the help. I know I will never support the autobon society and their likes. We must coexist with the environment not completely avoid ar destroy it. any radical position is just plain wrong.
Something I noticed after spending a week at Nags Head, there was trash, dog crap and other debris on the part of the beach closed to vehicles. But the Oregen Inlet beach section was completely clean, nothing but tire tracks. In order to protect the environment you have to be part of it. rant off
