What's up??? while i'm new to this fourm i'm not new to ridin; i'm 24 yrs old and have been ridin since i was 16; lol; and i'm still not a great rider; but i've rode a few bikes like a ducti and a bmw cbr's and one zook; i tend to agree with the guys on this page; the r6 will be a great bike for you and more power than you can think to find a use for; and you will get ugres to do stupid stuff no matter how dispined you are; how ever the first bike i ever rode was a bmw 1100 and i am a desencet rider (maybe not the worlds greatest speller;lol) but i think i would have been alot better rider if i would have started small and worked my way up in cc's but no matter what bike you get make sure you always wear your gear; even in hott weather it could be the only thing that saves your ass hope that help

I know you have never ridden before. I wish there was a way for you to even test ride a 500cc bike. On a 500cc, you would go soooo fast, you have never gone before. 500cc motorcyle is WAAAAY fast. Waaay faster than probably any car you have ever driven. 40-50 horse power can move a motorcycle to beat 90% of cars on the road (except exotics and stuff). You would be amazed at how fast you can go compared to how you have moved before you go on a motorcycle.
Now, a modern 600, you will go soooo fast, as you have NEVER gone before, even on a 500cc motorcycle. You will probably be able to beat the average exotics that you see around here. You will have adrenaline rush like you never believe it.
Now, get a R1, you better hope you dont hit a pothole and your wrist bump too hard with that kinda power. Alot of people dont even ever need to get a R1, because on the road, there is hardly any way you can push your R6 anywhere near its limits. If you get an R1, you probably couldnt even push it to its limits on the track without alot of years of experience under your belt.
You see, the motorcycle community is VERY tightly nitted. We look out for each other. I am not sure if you know about the infamous "wave". Everytime a motorcyclist pass another motorcyclist on the road, we 'wave' to each other. This is a sign we share in our community to know we are calling to someone who share the same risks as we do, and we are wishing them safe trip on our hobby we love so much.
There are countless people who would think that we motorcyclist are soooo crazy for riding and are wreckless with our lives. So, if you take us crazy people, who are adrenaline junkies, and who take up a risky hobby, telling you that you are crazy for wanting to start out on a R1, what would that make you?
I am not saying that it can not be done, and I am not saying that you probably wouldnt become a sucessful rider, but if you are the type of person who want to enjoy this wonderful hobby until we cant sit on a bike no more, then you should really spend time and develop your skills first. I am young, and I want to be on a bike even when I am old. I dont know about you, but I want to live, so I can enjoy riding, and enjoy livin. I enjoy waking up every morning checking the weather to see if I can ride today or not, and sulk when it gets cold like today, and I cant go out on my bike. Its a GREAT hobby. Learn it well!

dude this back and forth shit, split the difference. Get a 07 GSX-R 750. Both of the best world, would be the perfect solution to your situation. Except you are stuck on Yamaha. Check it out though, might suit the needs you seem to have.

....I'm sure I'll have urges and cravings to wanna go fast, but I still feel like I would have control and want to go slower and keep it in the lower RPMs at first because I want to be a great rider but I would also love to have the crazy extra power for when I feel I'm ready to use it....
Goto the local dealer and tell them you've never owned a bike and tell them what you're interested in. I can say with nearly 100% certainty that they'll recommend against the R1 and probably the R6. They'll attempt to get you on a SV-650, Ninja 250 or 500 or GS500. Keep in mind, these are people who want all of your money. They want you to bring your brand new baby to them when you drop it. They want you to spend as much as they can squeeze out of you. They see so many new riders buying bikes they shouldn't be on because of their ego. Yet they still recommend against new riders on liter bikes (and new 600's)....
I wouldn't even recommend a R6 as a first bike, but you're hell bent on getting a new supersport class bike. If you must, get the R6.
Excellent choice.

ha, sure. Post up some pics here so we can see it. Next on the list of To-Do is to get some good gear! Also, enroll for the MSF class (I forgot if you said if you did or not as yet). Practice in parking lots and your neighborhood before going out on busy streets. Most people fall at low speeds, parking lot type of falls when they first get their bikes. Keep the shiny side up!
