I know that sounds ignorant, but those of you who have lived here all of your life probably recognize the transition we're going through.... Roanoke is slowly (well, maybe not so slow anymore) being taken over.

I'll save this rant for another thread.
You're hanging out in the wrong places of Roanoke. But yes, it's not not a crazy nice place in comparison to a lot of the higher end cities throughout the country.

There are plenty of shitty people here though, that's for sure.

Hey Jeremy, are you powdercoating still? I have a few things that I'd like to see about having coated.

Everywhere in Roanoke sucks ass, let me break it down in tour guide mode:

1: Downtown-"When the sun goes down, so does the intelligence level." All of the clubs are lame.

Corned Beef is usually a fight waiting to happen. All of the tough guys save up for 3 months to buy one affliction/tapout shirt to wear around and act hard. They are willing to hit you in the back of the head with a beer bottle for looking at them. Think "my new haircut" guidos, except they're rednecks from the roanoke ghetto. People think the bouncers in here are assholes... they are not, they just have to deal with people that have no sense every night.

The metro... The epicenter of hair gel and cougars drinking wine. Need I say more? Everything is insanely priced, and it's centered around the older crowd. Be prepared for tucked in shirts, and bartenders that suck.

202 market square... sorry, haven't had the chance to wander in there yet. From the outside, it looks like it may have potential, but... it is Roanoke, and will probably be ruined by jackasses.

Oh, there is a strip club that's somewhere near the street where the tranny hookers hang, right up the street from the gay club, "the park", I think it's a couple blocks towards the police station, right along the same lines as the "crack houses" where it's not a good idea to be white and stopped. I hear the bouncers carry assault rifles though, so I'd recommend not venturing that far into Roanoke. Internet porn is safer, and probably cheaper, and probably better too.

P.S. no matter where you are downtown, don't feed the bums. Non-alcoholic substances set them off.

2: Williamson road, aka little mexico spotted like a cheetah with the legally insane wandering everywhere. If you're 16 and have a thing for hanging at gas stations, enjoy. If not, try not to get pissed off if it's after dark on a weekend. Make sure your chest is kevlar coated before getting gas at sheetz after dark. Barney fife isn't allowed to have a gun, but he makes up for it with MTO and the krispy kreme stand conveniently located inside.

3: Everywhere else, sorry, it's closed at 10pm.

Roanoke has to be the worst city in the world for insomniacs. I'm pretty sure that's why drug usage and alcoholism is so common here, because there isn't shit else for people to stay busy with.

I'm not arguing that the night life is great - it's not.

What I was saying is there are nicer areas of Roanoke. SW Roanoke, South Roanoke, etc. The downtown is directed at young people who don't know how to have a good time or old people who think they're having a good time. Roanoke is a nice place for family, and retirement.

During the school year i'm at College, during the summer I live at the Lake. During the inbetween times I am out enjoying the mountain roads cruising, spending time with my friends, doing things around the house, doing car stuff, or going back and forth from the lake (fall/spring).

It more has to do with the individual and their daily tasks/lifestyle rather than the actual downtown city scene - cause we know that sucks here! haha I'm not 21 and I can still tell you that. If you're young and you want to have fun, you better travel on the weekends or be a student at Roanoke College - otherwise the drinking/club/party scene isn't too great - unless you make it great, with your group of friends.

During the summer, the lake is where it's at. (NOT MANGOS) hahaha

I think I may just jump off a bridge, that seems more fun at this point.
