K20A2 knocking... which direction to go??
Recently bought a Crx with a K20A2 that the previous owner over rev'd and now its knocking. Been doing some reading over on k20a.org on different setups. Can't decide if it would be better to just throw a good shortblock back in it, or go ahead and get a k24 bottom end and use the existing k20 head. Either seem about the same amount of work, with a few little odds and ends that are extra when going with the k24 stuff. I guess I don't really see the advantage of building a k20/24 versus just a complete k24 longblock. Im not trying to build a race car, not upgrading pistons/rods etc. Just a simple shortblock replacement. Anyone have any tips? Advice? Gone down this path before? I don't plan on it ever seeing boost, just a fun all motor car. Although I keep reading ridiculous hp numbers on the stock longblock with some boost, I like the idea of an all motor, reliable, fun street car. Since the k24 block is 19mm taller, I wont be able to have a hood on the car without some dumbass hole cut in it. I can make the k20 (just barely) fit with a jdm hood/headlights and some imagination. Just looking for some .02 from guys that are more knowledgeable on the honda stuff on what way to go with the motor.

Seems like you know what you want to do. I would just stick with the k20a2 shortblock due to fitment issues like you said. You can probably repair your current block, sounds like a spun rod bearing. Either source out another crank and rod or find a k20a2 shortblock. I would tear them down and rebuild to oem specifications, also if using the current head flush/clean the oil passages really well. I'm positive shavings were pump throughout the block.
