Default Sleeves?

Ok so a friend of mine is wanting to get his block sleeved. Its a 1.8L LS block, he wants to make it a 2.0L which is a 84.0 mm bore. If he was to get it sleeved to 84.0mm what would he have to do to the block (cylinders) to prep for the sleeves? Would you reccomend sleeving the block or boring the cylinders 0.050 over to get the 84.0mm bore? Im pretty sure that 0.5mm = +.020 , Anyways he needs help and I have no clue what he's asking me.

Help is appreciated

Default Re: Sleeves?

If he has the block sleeved to 84mm it would be ready for 84mm pistons

You are correct....0.5mm = .020. When he gets the sleeved block back, just take it to a machine shop with the pistons (all 4, not just 1 like a local shop did recently and ruined a motor) and the shop will bore and hone to spec. The pistons come with P/W clearances. More than likely, if he spoke to the shop actually sleeving the block and let them know he was going 84mm, they will send the block back bored to 83mm. Most sleeving companies will do this to help you save money at the machine shop. In that case, 1mm (or .040) is what the machine shop will bore.
