Default Title Question

Ok..Originally my car was financed through VW Credit right, but I got it refinanced through Navy Fed. Vw Credit sent the title to my house and I didn't realize it until a couple of months ago. Turns out they sent it in Nov of 03 when I refinanced the car. So its laying around the house somewhere. If I can't find it can I go to the DMV and get a new title done and will I have the title in my hands since it was sent to me in the first place?

If not, when they send it to Navy Fed can I sign the title over to someone else at the bank?

Technically, if its not paid off yet, Navy Fed still owns the car and has the title. They should have a copy of the title, and if not can get it for you. But you probably won't see the title until its signed over.

I think thats how it works Derrick.

Well I contacted the bank and they don't have a copy of the title. Thats how I know I have it somewhere. Now if I get the title into Navy Fed's possession could I sign it over to someone else without paying off my loan? I will only have like 3k left to pay on it.

yeah, people do that all the time. Its just a title tranfer- they pick up the payments. Start digging through all the old thongs and newspapers around the house and find that title!
