has anyone had the nutserts break when trying to remove the air filter? i'm trying to throw a K&N drop in on my girls' civic and have broken off the head or broke the nutsert on every single screw. WTF? i've NEVER had any problems working on her car. did they put honda bond on the screws or something? i turn the screws with an 8mm and the bottom just spins in the housing. anyone?

I've got a 2001 Civic and I never had a problem. I've taken the top off a few different times and didn't notice it being hard. I eventually switced to an AEM SRI though.

 

yeah that's what i'm planning on doing. just had never seen this happen before.

Whoever worked on it last probably overtightened them, and it doesn't take much force to bind the screws enough to spin the inserts. Sorry you were on the wrong end of someone else's stupidity. Get an intake and enjoy the raging power gains! Or an extra 2 HP, whichever gets you more excited.
