bad piston rings
i have a 95 Civic Ex and my cylinders have low compression. i did a compression check and found out that my piston rings are bad. would it be easer to just get a new block or take the block out and buy new piston rings? how hard is that to do, since i am tight on money.
thanks

Tim.
Does it smoke? Burn oil? Coolant look fine?
It could be a headgasket problem dude. How many miles are on the car again?
I'm thinking headgasket because you recently changed the head, remember?
If you have to rebuild it. I can get a quote for a headgasket, main bearings, and new rings for you. If you want to do a mild build, my friend can get ZC pistons for 34 dollars a piece from Acura, so we can up the compression if you want.
Just holla at me before you do anything. My number is 675-4054.

Re: bad piston rings
yo, i did a compression check and it was low around 150, then put oil in the cylinder and it went up to 210. no oil burning but the coolant leaks like mad. could it be just a head gasket? or bad piston rings as well?

Re: bad piston rings
that kinda jump would defn lean towards bad piston rings. why not just get jdm engine instead of rebuilding yours? low miles, might even be cheaper than rebuilding.

Re: bad piston rings
If the rings were that bad he would be leaving a white smoke trail everywhere you drove burning a shit load of oil, most likley head gasket due to major coolant laeking w/o burnt oil. Easy to check, go to your local shop or buy the tool that checks if you have any oil it your coolant.

Re: bad piston rings
I'm saying head gasket if you're losing coolant. Oil from the combustion chamber will burn blue, burning coolant will be white. If your exhaust smells sweet, BHG. If you see your water temp rise, BHG.

Re: bad piston rings
its definalty the rings, the oil filled in the space that wasnt being seeled by the rings. You have more than one problem if you also loosing coolant
