bad rings or bad valve stems??

Default bad rings or bad valve stems??

is there a way to tell if i have bad rings or bad valve the cars smokes decently when idling then smokes more as you increase rpms

so how do i tell if its the valve stems or if its bad rings

Do a compression test, then add a squirt or two of oil to each cylinder and try again. If youre readings are higher after adding the oil, youve probably got bad rings.

i dont know how that would work seeing how of course it should be higher cause oil doesnt compress,its just burns

also would my compression be low,its a d15b2 and the compression is 180 all the way across

Its a proven fact, If your oil rings/compression rings are gone, when you add oil into the cylinders, it'll give the cylinder chamber a better seal if you have worn out rings.

not always. you can have a cylinder that is washed down with fuel that will increase in compression when you add oil, but the main thing is that if there is a cracked ring or score in the wall, alot of times it wont show with an oil test.

i can honestly say that i have never done the oil test on any car we have diagnosed, namely because i dont want to ruin my $200 gauge by getting oil in it. a leakdown tester is much more efficient for testing, along with a nice borescope.

motor still has really well compression 200/210 all the way across,but it smokes bad
