Default Irish Setter Question

The help of all of you VADriven dog lovers is needed. So in the recent months my father has been debating heavily about getting another dog, Irish Setter, like what he had had his whole life. He had his last one before my older brother was born, close to 21 years ago. Back then they were a very common breed of dog but now they are hard to find. I have been searching the internet for good breeders and the closest I have found and talked to that I like is in Missouri.

My question to all of you is whether or not anyone knows somebody that breeds them or has any good sources/information that might be able to point me in the right direction. He is really after a pure breed female, so that is the goal. If anyone has any advice or directions to point me in it would be greatly appreciated. I know there are quite a few dog lovers on here.

Thanks

I.S.'s are not a hard breed to find, I know a lady in Grandy, NC. She breeds once every two years. If you tell her your story im betting she would be willing to give you a discount on the price, But a female is going to cost more then a male(breeding purposes). Specially if you go thru a breeder, because then you become competition in the breeding. She doesnt breed for money, but for the love of the breed. Careful on websites, alot of them are puppymills, specially most that state they will ship ( not all, but most )

True. I'm comparing how common they were in the 70s to how common they are now. My research and all pretty much show those were like labs and retrievers are today. If you talk to her anytime see if she wouldn't mind you giving me her number. Price isn't an object whatsoever with a dog. I'll agree about the breeding and female being higher. Breeding is the last thing my dad will do though haha. Both of his other were females and he would just like keep it that way. I never realize there was so much that went on with finding one with different places, places to avoid. Thanks for the info.

I have a friend that has a Irish setter as a show dog. I am quite certain she knows a breeder that you can give a call. I will give her a shout tomorrow and pm you a number if she has one.
