thinking of buying an excursion

could you direct me to a good website....It's gonna be the diesel...should I stay away from a certain year? thanks

and if you buy a 7.3L you can count on replacing the transmission like 8 times.

the one i'm looking at is an 05 not sure which motor...can the trans in the 7.3 be upgraded?

03 up is 6.0. there is nothing wrong with the 6.0, as long as you get a good one. get the vin and have the oasis report pulled to see if it has any issues. the 6.0 got a bad wrap when it first came out and they for the most part have the bugs worked out. dad has the 7.3, i have the 6.0. the 6.0 will out pull and out run the 7.3. the 7.3 has a weak tranny, only option on that is to have one built for it.
