Tial 38mm External Wastegate Question
The wastegate has two vaccum ports, one on the side and one on the top. I didnt get instructions with the wastegate so which port do i use for a boost controller; top or side? and must i screw in both vaccum ports into the wastegate or just the being used with the boost controller? thanks in advance for the help.
I'm not running a boost controller and the top port to my wastegate is open so I'm pretty sure thats where the line to a controller would go. The side port is setup to see boost. Hope this helps.
One port has to go to atmo if you're using it the standard way.
The ports work differentially (meaning that it works on pressure difference between the two ports), so you can do some crazy stuff like have positive pressure on both ports, etc., or have vac on one port, boost on the other, if you need to for some types of complex boost control. I think you can do some funky sequential stuff with multiple wastegates this way also.. This stuff fascinates me, sorry.. =)
SHORT ANSWER: The standard way to use it is to keep one port open so it's referenced to atmo.

No, that's correct also, because one side is going to full boost and the controller is on the other side, so that would work the same as putting the controller between the wastegate and the rest of the vac system (and leaving the other port open). It really depends on how that controller works. You can either modulate the boost side or modulate the atmo side; in that picture the controller modulates the atmo side. Some controllers are different than that.. Just do whatever the controller calls for..
