Its easier for a first timer to get a nicer hardtail.....riding hardtail teaches you a few things also....You will learn when you start riding again.....FS with lockout begins to reach when you get a bike that actually works right and doesnt bob.....

See, what would you consider a "first timer"?? I used to ride a Kona Sexspension back in the day, and have always rode BMX Dirt/Street and a little bit of park.

Well since you rode street/dirt you must have a little bike handling skill....I am just saying a FS that bobs will wear you ou way faster than an efficient HT and HTs teach you how to choose better lines and when you race FS is there more for better traction instead of comfort.....If you are going for comfort I would recomend an all mountain bike I think where you work can get Jamis I would go after the XLT series.

Not too difficult here either. Tight turns, small hills. The intermediate trail is the best (and most challenging) of the three. Please note that these trails don’t drain well and should be avoided for a few days after a rain.

25 minute drive. 664 to 64 W, take 1st J. Clyde Morris Blvd exit (17 N), go approx 4 miles, turn left on Oriana Rd. Park entrance is about 1mi on left immediately after bridge. Trail entrance is across the road another 200yds down Oriana.
my friend and I went to harwood this morning. the main trail enterance takes you into the novice trail. There is a dirt road right next to the bike path enterence that takes youd own to the advanced and expert trails.

Once you come out of the novice trail there is a sign pointing to the advanced trail up the road. Follow the road to the right when it bends off and you'll see the 'advanced' enterence sign. When you come out of the advanced trail it puts you at a T-intersection with a dirt road. A sign marked 'parking lot' points left, but if you go right about 250yd farther down the road is the 'expert' trail, which is the most fun I thought.

Anyways, just wrote that to clear it up to any people who might go out there. i found novice, advanced, and expert but kept searching for "intermediate" like the desctiption had it.

Harwood Mills is pretty heavily damaged right now. Some assholes decided to try and make an extension of the trail on the airport side of the fire roads and it caused a bit of a fuss. Now the park rangers won't let anyone in to the trails to do any kind of upkeep. They just ask for reports of where trees have fallen. The trail is in pretty bad shape right now compared to how it was last year.
