You can get a lawyer and maybe he can work his magic and get it to be a moving violation or something like that.

You say he gave you a normal speeding ticket yet you say its a reckless ticket? If you are allowed to prepay it's not reckless. If its your first ticket ever, GO TO COURT! Don't plan on the cop not showing up though, there are many reasons for that. Even if he doesnt show most of the time they will postpone the ticket or let you settle it right there with the prosecutor.
Moral of the story, GO TO COURT!

True. Your first ticket? Head to court and they'll probably drop it down to a lesser offense.

I'm almost positive that it's a myth that you automatically get out of a ticket based on an officer not showing up to court. I've been there several times when the officer wasn't there, and it didn't make a difference. lol

Yep. If he doesn't show up it's usually dropped. But the chances of him/her not showing up are very slim.

Uhh, is there a catch to it or something? Is it supposed to be automatically dropped or is it only dropped if you're fighting it? I got a ticket on the way to D.C. this past weekend by a state trooper who made it very clear that I "certainly don't have to come to court." I'd like to go and fight it anyway, since I was in the middle of a large pack of cars traveling above the speed limit. In a case like that, I think it's actually safer to keep up with traffic than make yourself a hazard.

yo udon't jsut get off a ticket for your speedo being off, its something that if yo uahve a GOOD record they might take into consideration and reduce it to a lower speedin charge, like 1-9mph over.
also just b/c the cop doesn't show doesn't mean its thrown out, usually you just have to come back again teh next time hes in court as well.
i'm pretty sure too if he didn't write you up for wreckless, only regular speeding then it only will be a regular speeding 4pt charge.
