what would you think of this?
smartest and easiest would be to get a awd eclipse and cut the body off leaving just the floor pan..then figure out if you need to lenghthen or shorten it for the civic wheelbase...then cut floor out of civic body...reinstall on the floor of the eclipse...wire it up and roll...

not so much, the civic weighs less than the DSM. plus, it MAY be cheaper, but how many people have turbo'd AWD civics? And i fell in love with it for that reason. it was light as shit and it was like driving a big go-kart.

The width from driver to passenger wheel on the front and rear of the DSM drivetrain is only 2 inches wider than the civic's. fender flares can fix that little issue. (AFTER some hefty bay modification of course.)
The entire setup will not fit under the car, i will have to cut out the floor down the center of the car to make a drive-shaft hump and re-enforce it. then I will have to have the drive-shaft shortened 3 inches.
Ive been doing research on this for about a year now, measuring and calculating shit, there are too many things to go over that are all on paper, the project is gonna start this summer around July/August time frame though. I plan on having it done by new years 09.
I just like hearing what people have to say, lol.
I'm not sure you're doing yourself any favors by putting a DSM drivetrain in there.. Any other choices? You're throwing Honda reliability away for a DSM engine.. hmm..
Fabricating a rear suspension setup is one of the fun things you'll have to do. Trailing arms aren't what you really want to use for a driven wheel..
Axles should be pretty easy, you can get some hybrids custom made so the splines match up.
I remember it sounded like quite a chore to put a CRV AWD system in an Integra (remember that swap?) and that was a drop-in engine swap and only drivetrain modifications.
I still want to do a RWD Suby engine swap (with a Hewland transaxle in the back, mounted Corvette style) into a Civic or something like that. It should fit with enough trunk room. I think..

Im gonna rig the suspension components off the DSM onto the civic somehow. Gotta get the parts in hand before i can start thinking though.
