That's the cause. Supply and demand.

Is that why there was no effect when 96% of offshore oil production in the gulf was shut down from Gustav too? No, the only difference here is Ike wasn't completely downgraded so all the dumbass speculators caused a scare and gas stations took advantage of the situation.

It's funny that they immediately raise prices at the pump months or years out from the actual effect of something like this, yet when the price of oil drops $40 in a summer, you see little to no, or very very slow dropping of prices at the pump..

Yeah, it's called scalping. I'm not saying they ran out, but the idea of supply and demand came into play nonetheless. People freaked out and thought it was a possibility to run out of supply for a few days, so the demand sky rocketed. The companies foresaw this, so they jacked the prices up. Totally out of line, and totally unreasonable, we've had worse situations. I'm just saying, with the news stating 1/5 of all _______ bla bla bla shut down, people rushed to get gas.

Totally retarded.

It would be like if a grocery store hiked the prices on bread and milk on a day before a snowstorm.
