Whats a 300zx worth in the automotive community?
i never said it was hard. i said it costs alot. i've watched my brother do several in a matter of hours in his garage. dealerships love it because people are scared of timing belts.
its really simple actually, and the exact write up is on twinturbo.net under the doc's section.
drain radiator
remove intake pipes
remove fan shroud
remove fan
remove radiator hoses
remove radiator
remove drive belts
remove water pump pulley
remove crank pulley - that can be a bitch. and those crank pulleys are expensive as a mother fucker when you crack the edge if you have to buy it new
disconnect/remove ptu
disconnect water temp sensors
remove water inlet/outlet pipes
remove front covers
adjust to tdc
loosen nut on auto tensioner
remove belt
then while you're in there, remove cam gears
replace cam seals
remove crank gear - also can be a bitch to get off. in many cases, just expect to have to hack it off. drilling/tapping is the best method though it takes a long while as the gear is very hard metal
and replace crank seal
install new water pump
install new thermostat
replace belt idlers and self adjuster (including all hardware) - very important this is done. all too often not long after servicing the timing belt, these bolts snap and idler winds out, tears thru front cover, belt goes limp, engine breaks.
reinstall cams and crank gear
install belt, correctly lining up all marks - this kinda sucks having 4 cams. don't get your fingers between the intake and exhaust cams either, that shit hurts.
turn over by hand 4 full rotations and recheck alignment marks.
reassemble and be done.
see, its not hard. but then neither is swapping a motor in an S car... and a swapped s car > a Z, espeically an NA.

10's about right for an early model twinturbo. a 95 or 96 could get more if he was willing to sit on it and/or sell it in a non local market.
