Laying bike down on purpose?
Ahem, good insight Shawn, but if you remember I have laid mine down a few times due to the front brake.... 1 lowside and an endo at the track.... :-p just for the record
On the street I've only laid mine down once..........big patch of mud...Mica can attest.
I can't say that I laid it down on purpose; but I did everything within my ability to get it back up, to include pushing off of my leg (boot pucks)...no luck.
I was at such a slow speed by the time I laid it down that there was very minimal damage and I was completely fine.
As stated; I can't see that this would be something I would try and do; to save myself from some other kind of wreck?
But; I can attest that you can do it in a sort of "controlled" way that will save you and the bike.

u forgot to add doing a 180 spin too.Where u been??
I've had to lay a bike down because that was the only option that I saw. I was a noob when I had to do that, but there was a car infront of me that stopped short and I was looking in the opposite direction. There was oncoming traffic coming and a car coming out of a side street on the right, so not that I exactly had time to think but I just left my bike after jamming the rear break. It saved me I think, my bike got wedged under the car and I went over top of the car.
Just my $.02
Peace easy
