Might want to consider starting out on something slower, and maybe without an expensive fairing. I am on my first bike, a Yamaha Seca II, and I think its the perfect beginner bike. I originally wanted to start on an F3, but im glad I didnt. I'd like to get an SV 650 pretty soon.

honda parts aren't exactly cheap. buy something older so it won't hurt as much when u drop it the first, second maybe even three times. then once you have a real good handle on it you can go buy a 02-05 whatever.

I'm also going to suggest getting an older, cheaper bike to start out with. I'm still with my first bike (ninja 500r) and it's pretty quick, looks good, and can take twistys just as well as the big bikes. Needless to say I didn't cry the first time I laid it down...or the second. Learning sucks but I'm glad I took everyones advice and started on a used beginner bike and not the 99 GSXR600 I wanted.

I started street riding on an F3 and I have years of dirt experience. However, all it takes is one small mistake on your part and/or one small mistake by another driver on the road and BAM you end up in a telephone pole like me. Luckily, I wasn't hurt too bad but the bike's frame was bent. I ended up buying another F3 with a blown motor and putting my good motor (from my bad frame) in the other bike and selling it. What did I get next, you may wonder. My dad, who has been riding for many decades was generous enough to give me a bike I wouldn't kill myself on, a 2002 Yamaha Virago 250 (which is a cruiser.) Let me tell you, this is the perfect bike to learn to ride on. It is very light and nimble and easy to handle. It will cruise on at highway speeds all day long, and through twisty backroads it's a blast. Now, obviously it is not a bike you want to keep forever, but a lifesaver (literally) to learn on. You may say, man I would never ride that people would laugh at me. Well, first of all you will get respect from other riders riding any bike. Secondly, it is better to be alive and laughed at then dead. Also, try taking the motorcycle road test on a sportbike and you may find you can't do it. Well, I still have the Virago and i'll let you have it for $900 if you want. Then when your done you can pass it on to another beginner for about the same. I have a W650 now, and am looking at getting a GSXR or something this summer. PM if your interested.
