i honestly don't believe it's a racial issue. If you look at it up close, it may seem that way, but really it's more of a media-based problem. People here that bash wannabe gangsters, but still go out to Best Buy and get 3-6Mafia, T.I. or whatever the senseless crap, you're the problem feeding the machine. I understand it's just music and everything, but people take it seriously subconsciously, and glorifying this 'real' ass way of life is bullshit.
The majority of youths in ghettos aren't all dumb by any means in a literal sense, but the life they buy into and aspire to grow with is unreasonable. By the time they realize this, I feel is almost always too late. With more street credibility than good work experience or degrees. It's a system designed for failure, truly, imo. Although this is all my opinion, I'm sure you can't peg a race for this. Ignorance is Ignorance, it doesn't discriminate.

btw you'd think Mind over matter is a fairly simple philosophy, right? Well a lot of people would still be alive if it were more prevalently taken to heart.

i didnt read all pages of this thread.. but.. heres my 2cents.

I work in hampton.. and happen to cater to the community you all are discussing. I deal with all these people who come from these areas EVERY SINGLE DAY.. and let me tell you, the situation is just getting worse.. and worse. Its being carried from every 16 yr old mother right down to her new born child. Its a never ending cycle that wont get stopped unless.. well, I dont even know. Unless they get smart and stop having babies. But well see about that!

Its so crazy to me how I can live 15 min away from downtown, but be 100% completly different then everyone I encounter.

Their lives, their morals and values, the things they work and strive for are just so off and different then the majority of my friends. But its not everyone.. but a whooole lot.

A lot of them.. seriously, have literlly nothing to lose but their freedom. I know a lot of people who stay downtown, in lincoln park, off shell road.. wherever it maybe. People who got shot for opening their mouths, peoples houses been broken into and then got shot up, drug deals gone 'bad', to breaking and entering and threatening to rape someone. Shit is out of control. Thank God Im not involved.

Its hard to understand and comprehend given all the oppertunities we're given today.. but they are just brought up differently. I dont agree with it and not saying its cool.. but they just dont know any better. Its their own faults they dont use all the resources given to them. But like i said.. its just getting carried down from generation to generation and no ones putting a stop to it. What they need to do is issue out condoms through out all of section 8 housing.

and.. i personally think downtown nn and hpt are way worse they uptown.
