Default Sanding and priming ?'s

So I'm thinking about starting to sand and prime my civic hatch today and just had a few questions i wanted to put out there, as it being i have never done this before. Also if anyone has any tips to give me, or good types of primer to use or any of that it would be greatly appreciated. I am having a friend help me who is somewhat knowledgeable so thats a plus.

Well lets start from the beginning, im sure the car will need to be clean free of dirt oil and all. how much do i need to sand? just enough to take the paint off? what grit sandpaper should i use for this? i read about wet sanding after each coat of primer? should i wet sand before i even put my first coat? how many coats do you recommend?

i have plenty more questions but just dont know how to word most of it lol if anyone else has anything they wanna run by me so i can do this right the first time i would appreciate that.

Thanks again everyone

We all know it'll never be finished and just be primered forever.
