Default Transmission problems.

I just bought a 1990 accord (130,000 MILES). It is an automatic. There is a rattle/knock coming from the transmission area (Even in park and neutral). The transision will not catch any forward gears and revese will catch after a little reving. When reverse does finnally kick in, the rattle/knock stops or is much quieter. Fluid level is ok. I'm thinking torque converter, any more suggestions?

I was just gonna replace the whole thing....metal from converter is probably everywhere. Are there any better transmissions that will drop in (ie. better gear ratios from different year....or prelude maybe)

P.S.- I will be staying auto because I will be selling the car soon.
