Default help code 8: tdc sensor

I have a 00 si and im throwing code 8.. How do i fix this the sensor its in the dizzy do i have to replace the whole dist.?? also is this the reason i have no vtec? thanks

Yes. And yes.

That's one of the major engine position sensors, and that will keep the engine from running properly, so VTEC won't be green lighted to engage. Usually the whole distributor has to be replaced, yes, but that assumes that the problem isn't a wiring issue. Borrow a used distributor from a friend before running out and buying a new one.
