yeah doing water pump,head shave,timing belt,balance shaft belt and head gasket

Watch how much you get the head shaved, and get a thicker head gasket to make up the difference you lost. If you don't, you'll be geometrically changing the cam timing and you'll need to get adjustable cam gears to adjust back to normal cam position.

Glad you found out what was wrong though, it's a bad thing to find out but at least you know what it is and how to fix it.
