Help! Code 13! Bad idle and wont go past 4000rpms
ok i need help. i have a 1991 honda crx with a 1993 d15 non vtec cx motor in it. I was going to convert to obd1 but i dont have the knock sensor and other stuff. So I put a hf dizzy on it along with the ecu. The thing is the idle would bounce from like 1500 to 2000 and slowly go down still bounce. at a sit still the motor wouldnt rev past 4000 but when driving it wouldnt go past 3500ish. I unplugged the tps and the cars idle stopped bouncing and sat around 1500. But still wouldnt go past 3500 driving. Other then not being able to get past 3500 rpms - the car ran fine. I brought it to a friends garage and ran some tests on the tps wires. The power wire ended up being somehow grounded out (Bad wire). We cut the wire and attached new wire and ran it through the firewall into the ecu. It through code 13, and we also tried another ecu and still read code 13. This did not help. All i can think of right now is that the tps is bad and needs to be replaced. Since i thought it was drivable and it was getting late i was on the way home and it began to stumble a lot and it was running real rich. The car wouldn't get anywhere. i tried plugging and unplugging the tps and it still ran poor as hell. The idle was bouncing bad again. Before i left the garage the code was 13 short (code 13) and after it started acting up it was code 13 and 1 long 3 short (pretty much code 13). I know what the code means and dont think that has anything to do with the rpm problem. If anyone can help it would be most appreciated. Thanks

It only throws code 13 if the ecu is faulty, you may have a ground issue.
I would toss that dizzy first off.
Btw you dont need a knock sensor to convert to obd1.You dont need a knock sensor period.

hhhhmmmm... why keep troubleshooting the TPS. Code 13 (Barometric pressure error) is generated by a MAP sensor. Are you boosted? An ECU on "Limp" mode is basically a safety feature integrated in your ECU for safety. It will prevent the motor from possible damage therefore not allowing you to rev too high. It also makes your fuel system run rich.
What I dont understand is that, a code 13 should not place the ECU on "limp" mode. I've had that issue before on an OBD2b set-up running boost.... but it never went on "limp" mode.... maybe OBD2 is different...

yeah, im not boostin right now and i forgot that i dont need the knock sensor for this. But yeah the code 13 is for (ex. when u go into the mountains or whatever and the car adapts to the air or something to make it run right in the altitude). If anyone has an idea what to check or try to fix next please lmk. I will pay someone if they know whats going on here.

i threw a 13, my map sensor went off. i had bad vacuum leak in my intake manifold wheer the injecters are. so something could be throwing the pressure off or it cuold be the sensor itself.
good luck
